'BingoLotto'

The British Aikido Board is a registered supporter of 'Bingo Lotto'. BingoLotto was launched on 26 February 2008 with a photo shoot at Trafalgar Square featuring the show's host's Joe Pasquale, Suzanne Shaw and Mr Bing, the show's mascot, together with members of the British Aikido Association who attended as representatives of the BAB.

Following the end of the first 12 week run, 20% of the profits from ticket sales have been passed to CCPR for distribution to CCPR members - which includes the BAB. After our tranche of the funds are received we will be able to use them in the following areas:

To develop and support grassroots sport delivery, with the emphasis on community sport;

To help increase the numbers of people participating in sport and to take sport to a wider audience;

To build a stronger, more effective and self-supporting infrastructure for voluntary sport and recreation.

CCPR is delighted to announce that its members including the 'British Aikido Board' will be amongst the beneficiaries of BingoLotto - a new TV game which will raise money for sport and the voluntary sector.

BingoLotto will be a weekly game broadcast on digital television channels Virgin1 and Challenge. Tickets will be on sale from outlets around the country and will allow viewers to take part in the BingoLotto game from the comfort of their own homes, with a 1 in 9.5 chance of winning.

The BingoLotto game has run in Sweden since 1991 where it has raised just under £1bn for charities and sports organisations. At least 20% from each ticket sold in the UK will be distributed to sport and recreation projects up and down the country. Profits will be distributed to the governing and representative bodies of sport and recreation through a 'community interest company' set up by CCPR, the umbrella body for those organisations.

The funding for sport and recreation will be spent on new and enhanced programmes of activity at the grassroots of the sector and on special projects, such as infrastructure improvement and capacity building, for which funding is currently unavailable. The extra investment in grassroots sport and recreation will be extremely welcome, particularly at a time when funding from other sources for the sector is diminishing.

The game's motto is 'Real people. Real winners,' and it will offer life-enhancing, rather than life-changing prizes to winners. The prizes in the game are varied and range from tickets for the following week's game, through to cars and holidays, to a maximum cash prize of 100,000 pounds. BingoLotto is regulated by the Gambling Commission.

Brigid Simmonds, CCPR chair, believes the investment distributed to CCPR members can make a big difference to community sport and recreation:

It's CCPR's role to protect, promote and provide for its members and BingoLotto proceeds have the potential to partially achieve all three of our aims. The money that the game will provide will be invested in sports projects right across the country and will, we hope, make a valuable contribution to helping our sport and recreation bodies develop opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.

"Funding for sport and recreation bodies is always an issue. Most clubs are run by volunteers and many barely break even. This extra funding should allow a greater scope of activity, across a greater range of initiatives and provide a much needed fillip to the sector."
