Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre - Saturday
27th September 2008
The National Course is held to provide an opportunity for the
wider aikido family to meet together and to train in a variety of
styles under some of this country's leading instructors.
Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre [
Bisham, Marlow, Buckinghamshire, England, SL7
1RT ] is located within the grounds of Bisham Abbey
which is over 800 years old and is set in acres of parkland that
lead down to the River Thames. The Centre also offers tennis,
badminton, squash and gymnasium facilities and is ideally situated
for visiting, Windsor Castle, Eton College and Hampton Court Palace.
The Dojo, which is light and airy, will provide a training area of
approx 250 mats, plus space for spectators. Drinking water will be
available adjacent to the dojo, and there is a cafeteria/bar on the
first floor offering snacks and light lunches. The Course is open to
all aikidoka aged 18 years and over. Those not holding a current BAB
insurance certificate will be required to pay an additional 5 pounds to
cover insurance.

By Road:
Bisham Abbey is located midway between Junction 4 of
the M40 and Junction
8/9 of the M4. Take the M404 from either motorway
and after approx 4 miles
you will reach the Bisham roundabout which has
sign-posts to the centre. Bisham
Abbey is situated on the left hand side approx 200
metres from the roundabout.

About the Instructors
Gordon Jones Shihan 6th Dan Hombu, began Aikido
in 1968 and in January 2007 was appointed Shihan by Moriteru
Ueshiba Doshu. Gordon became Principal of the UKA in 2006.
Quentin Cooke 5th Dan, Is the chairman of Aikido
for Daily Life, which he formed in conjunction with Piers Cooke.
Quentin enjoys attending other Association's seminars which he
feels widens his Aikido knowledge.
Davinder Bath 5th Dan, is a senior instructor at
London Aikikai. He is a student of T K Chiba Shihan, diligently
following his teaching at the physical, martial and spiritual
levels. He also trains extensively in Aikido weapons, Iaido and
Zazen.
Clive McDowell 4th Dan, started practicing
Tomiki Aikido in 1979, but after a meeting with Kobayashi Sensei in
1993 he found a new Aikido path to follow. Clive continues to
regularly practice under his guidance.
Vincent Hammond 4th Dan, Vincent started Aikido
in 1982. He has trained in Canada at the Japanese Canadian Cultural
Centre under Osamu Obata Shihan 7th Dan. Vincent currently travels
the country visiting clubs and attending seminars to widen his
knowledge and understanding of Aikido.
Brian Stockwell 7th Dan, began studying Aikido
in 1964 whilst in the army after which he studied under the late Ted
Stratton. 15 years ago he formed his own Association and has worked
as a police trainer for the Devon & Cornwall constabularies.
