Aikido Seishin Kai

History

Aikido Seishin Kai is an independent organisation dedicated to the practice and promotion of traditional Japanese Aikido.  In addition to studying defence and counter techniques to all forms of attacks both unarmed and armed we also maintain the Samurai traditions of techniques performed in seiza (kneeling) positions and the use of weapons such as the jyo (staff) and bokken(sword).
We have clubs in Stoke on Trent and in Hyde (Cheshire) and the surrounding area. The organisation in its present form has been in existence since 1998 but its member clubs have been in existence for much longer These clubs were originally part of the Aikido Research Federation ( an existing BAB member) but left to form A.S.K. in 1998.
Our grading syllabus is based on that of Sensei Yoshimitsu Yamada - 8th Dan who is a direct student of Sensei  Morihei Ueshiba the founder of modern Aikido. All of our instructors and many of our students have been fortunate enough to train with Yamada Sensei on many of his visits to the U.K.
Despite being politically independent, we feel it is important to maintain contact with other Aikido organisations and visits to seminars and courses, especially those featuring high ranking Japanese  (or other) sensei, are actively encouraged.
Financially, our only aim is to be solvent. None of our instructors receive any payment for teaching and all monies collected from mat fees etc. are ploughed back into the club and used to contribute to teaching aids, assistance for students to attend external courses etc.
