I would be very interested in knowing whether people think adding Forums to the website is worthwhile.
What do people think the benefits and negatives , if any, are? |

I think a forum for BAB members is an excellent step forward.
Currently the only real vehicle for exchange between different federation members is the annual course.
This forum will in time, radically increase the flow and exchange of Aikido information between groups and should ensure that BAB seniors have finger on the pulse of grass roots members from all groups.
Regards
D

What a great comment, But lets hope the BAB Exec Members actaully listern to what is being said by the members. Being one of the myself, even if it has been only for a very short while. I am not sure it will happen.
So make sure you are heard and put every question up on the forum, I am not saying a BAB Exec member will answer it, but at least the question will be out there.
Also, Please talk about the good points as well as the bad.

I think it is excellent idea, however it will need to well moderated in order to not offend it's users or the different groups that we have within the BAB.

If it is to well moderated then the truth is also moderated!
I would say that a chat forum is a place where you can speak openly.
The only moderating that should be done is to remove four letter words like d

I'm a little surprised - did the BAB have a PLAN to do this forum? i.e. an objective or requirements spec. or research for it &c.? (I have not seen anything whilst browsing the site.)
If so, what are the objectives or requirements for it? We can only comment on whether it is EFFECTIVE if we know what the desired EFFECTS are!!!!!
Just a thought - the BAB are our Executive. (Or is the strategy a posteriori?
)Greetings to all you Aikidoka.

I think this forum is a great idea for Aikido in the UK. It's down to the members to make it a special place for Aikido.
A fair point - however!! moderation and censorship are two very different things. Moderation means to ensure that posts are kept within the rules and spirit of this forum and Aikido. It's to ensure posts are not offensive, rude, inflammatory etc.. I have already seen a post that should have been moderated (not deleted but locked). Censorship is a totally different issue. It is the forum members that make the forum. I have seen forums that I have no wish to be a part of; I can also point you in the direction of one that is for Martial Artists from many different styles and associations, that is nothing but a positive force in the pursuit of knowledge. Let the forum members make this a place for such positivity. Best wish's Andy |
