Hi Sue,
sorry its been so long since I contributed to the forum.  I have a question about the cost of the CRB check.  I completed my CRB paperwork last November and originally my organisation (which will remain nameless for the moment) agreed that they would pay for CRB checks for club leaders.
I am told now that there is a delay in submitting my CRB because they can't decide who should pay.  I have tried to find out the exact cost (to the organisation I assume) but am getting nowhere and somewhat frustrated %3cnhappy.   Therefore I would be grateful if you could divulge the exact costs to me so I have abetter idea of what the problem is.
This is not a problem at the moment as I am not teaching under 18s but I want to expand my class as I had discussed before and I cannot move forward until I have resolved this issue.

Any help greatfully received

Regards

awase

Hey there - so so sorry for not replying sooner. I didn't realise until today that this had been posted on the web site.

A few comments on the issues you have raised in your posting:

1. Just being a club leader does not mean you should automatically be CRB checked. Certain criteria have to be met in order for a check to be done -- and the person undertaking the check must be in a suitable role. As you are intending to teach children then this should not be a problem. But if you were not intending to teach children and had no other reason to be checked then it would not be appropriate for your group to require a check (indeed it may not even be lawful - but don't quote me on that!). There have been instances in the BAB where an organisaton has wanted to check every instructor 'just in case' - and that is definitely NOT compliant with the guidelines and would most definitely be open to challenge.

2. The current cost of a CRB check done through the BAB is £12.50 (for volunteers). The actual check itself is free - but our umbrella organisation makes this £12.50 charge. The BAB does not  add anything extra (though individual Assns or Clubs might).

I appreciate that you may not want to divulge details in this open forum -- but if you do want to dicuss further then please email me direct : sueward@tiscali.co.uk.

All best

Sue
