Slightly off topic...but as another 4th dan (albeit a fair bit younger than Mr Billett) I'm running an Open course in Templegate dojo this week end. (17th / 18th October 2009)
2 to 5 on saturday & 10 to 1 on sunday. If anyone is in the region and fancies an extra train ...or just a nosy peek at our dojo you'd be more than welcome. If you don'know who I am...here I am in civvies http://www.templegatedojo.org.uk/dojo/instructors/instructors.shtml (Daren Sims) I can also be spotted among the photos from the National course - I was Tim Buswells first Uke...and can be seen coughing back to my place in the 3rd photo in the left hand column on page 1 of his photos. Anyway - not going into a huge marketing spiel...but if you fancy a train and have current BAB insurance you would be welcome. Please drop me a mail if you are interested. Cheers Daren |

Ooh twist my arm, go on then! I'll definitely be coming along, I assume people will be heading pub-wards after to complete the Aikido-Social circle? ![]() on the original posted topic: Courses are a good opportunity to put in extra time training, a good excuse to meet/see people that otherwise we might not. It's never a bad thing to make connections between regions/groups so that if we find ourselves outside our normal playground we are more likely to bump into friends should we drop in somewhere different. Sometimes it's not just about who has greater experience or knowledge but simply a different choice of expression that can lead you to take away a little bit of something you want to keep and incorporate into your training. All in all, the more courses the merrier in my opinion - an opportunity to see sensei we might otherwise not is also most welcome - "young" or otherwise! |

I like the idea of lower grades teaching the way.
In my aikido experience (1&1/2 years) I have only taken class from one sensei who was lower than a 5th dan in aikido. The instructors i have trained with include Sensei Aileen Jeffreys 5th dan. Sensei David Walker 5th dan. Sensei A. Henderson 6th dan. Sensei Jeffreys is the instructor at my club and I find her aikido to be extremely flowing and bloody painful in the right places haha. Anyway back to the topic; I would love to train under a dan grade lower than say, 4th dan and in my oppinion i think that they have just as much to offer. |
