I recently attended an aikido smeinar by Sensei tony Sergeant 6th dan Iwama Ryu and I left feeling fuffilled and satisfyed with what I had learned and worked on.
This year Tony Sensei's theme was leaning. I had always thought that my posture was good, straight and well ballanced but yesterday (Sunday 7th March) I thought again, and I thought hard. Tony Sensei tought us the importance of good posture and from the basic techniques. Koshinage was one technique he foucused on with posture (I'm rubbish at the technique so I dont particularly like it) And balance. I also found that his focus also on kitenage helped me alot with both my technique and my ukemi. This year also interwined with last years course where he focused on foot work and everything happened to fall into place and felt great when we feel that 'grounded' feeling. Over all this years seminar with Tony Sensei has inspired me to go slower and make me think more of the technique rather than trying to just do the technique to a minimal standard. Everything that Tony Sensei said to us is what our own sensei tried teaching us but we never really got it right. Mark. |

I had the pleasure of attending the seminar hosted by ETAF with Tadayuki Sato Shihan as guest instructor. Tadayuki Sato taught the relationship of both Judo and Aikido techniques. he also showed some pre war aiki techniques taught to Tomiki Shihan.
I would advise any Tomiki based Aikidoka to attend one of his courses, after all these years I still learnt about ma ai and kuzushi with some very clever subtle applications. Sato is Shihan of Waseda University and practises the Shidokan system.

Hi Mark,
I was present at one of Aileen's dan gradings as I was teaching Tomiki Aikido at the Essex Budokan annual spring school as a guest instructor.
I have met Aileen on several occasions at the Budokan spring school. This spring school is usually well attended by members of the Aiki Budo Fraternity as Essex Budokan senior instructor Chris Moslin 8th Dan heads the ABF.
Although I am not a member of the ABF my club is alway made very welcome at the spring school.
