Just wanted to firstly also mention how much I enjoyed the course this year - I thought all of the teachers were very good and it was great to see something different with the Kubotan class from Brian. It was also great (and long overdue) to finally get to throw Vincent around ;-).
The only negative for me was that once again, there was one particular person (anyone who was present would have been aware of him) who was walking round the mat 'teaching' on everyones class (he was not one of the featured teachers). I had a number of mini lessons from said person and to be honest, he simply grunted a lot, never said a word and then proceeded to attempt to destroy whatever technique I or anyone else was practising - offering no explanation of quite what it was he was 'attempting' to correct. I know this person and his attitude to others has been highlighted before and I am somewhat surprised to see him still doing the same thing. A number of kyu grades I trained with were quite upset with him and his attitude - often resulting in being struck by him.

Thank you very much for posting this John. I wanted to post but was worried in case this person was held in very high regard and I was seen as being disrespectful. Even if this is the case I could not agree with you more. A friend of mine (an 18 year old girl) was hit in the face by him - and then when his iriminage didn't work on another lady he used her hair to pull her to the ground.
This man strutted around and seemed to just wait to find someone to pick on. He didn't seem to train or offer himself as an uke. He only appeared to want to show off and indeed bully or hurt people. You are right that he paid no respect whatsoever to the instructor teaching.
He seems to have annoyed a lot of people and so perhaps he should not be allowed to attend any further courses??
It is odd that apparently he had an injury and so could not 'train' - but the injury didn't seem to stop him being able to hurt people throughout the day.

Hello to everyone and firstly a big thanks to all. A most enjoyable and fun day with just one elderly man playing god. I was working with the lady when her hair was pulled, with no reason given. On another occasion he corrected my yokomem strike and when I carried out his example he struck out straight at my nose to demonstraight i suppose his skill?? Although it was my third national course, I found it hard to respond as this person behaved with such authority, I think his only option is to attend next year and uke for the entire hall to make amends. ------------- You have been Gookied |

Can everyone who has a problem with this person please contact either the BAB Chairmain directly or the BAB Webmaster who will pass your comments on to the Chairman and we will see what can be done. We need full information on the subject and I don't believe an open forum is the best place for this.
