IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE CRB CHECKS
FROM THE BAB LEAD CPO AND THE BAB CHAIRMAN
Please read and ensure all interested parties in your association are aware of this information.
We are aware that the BAB CRB ‘message’ may not have reached all Associations and/or their Clubs, especially those that have recently joined the BAB.
We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you that all those working in a supervisory capacity with under 18s MUST have a BAB CRB check in place, and with the introduction of the ISA regulations this year, the Board policy is this has to be re-done every three years. In effect, all current CRB-checked personnel should have had a re-check by – at the latest – mid 2012.
CRB checks done outside of aikido and/or by other organisations are not acceptable as portability across agencies is not yet possible.
Those requiring a BAB CRB check will include (but may not be limited to): Instructors, coaches, assistant coaches, class assistants, helpers and so on – i.e. anyone who works with children on a regular basis. ‘Regular’ would be defined as anything other than a ‘one off’ (e.g. using someone in an emergency situation to ensure the class runs safely).
Others in your Association will also need checking (even though they may not work directly with under 18s). These people will include (but may not be limited to):
?? Heads of Association (because these people set the culture and rules for the group)
?? Chief Instructors – those who administer gradings (although they may not actually work with the children on a regular basis – if they grade the children then they are in a position of trust and so would need checking).
?? Coach Tutors (because they will be delivering training material dealing with safeguarding and so clearly need to be vetted as appropriate for that role)
?? Webmasters and anyone who manages data relating to under 18s.
We obtain our insurance cover on the basis that all Members follow BAB policies and procedures. It is therefore essential that all Member Associations ensure that BAB CRB checks are in place for all those requiring one, and that these are now renewed every 3 years.
